Sergio Garrido, greatest costa rican artist of all time.

Hey this is my first time writing a blog to be honest so have some patience please!

(pic of him with a guitar)

Introduction:

Sergio Garrido is my favourite artist! He was born here in Costa Rica and was a formal member of the band 'Manantial'. He wrote many cool songs such as 'Sereno es', 'Un cafe para Platon' and 'Julieta' which were total hits back in 1980 and 1990. He also performed those songs singing on stage and left a significant mark in the culture of ballad music in Costa Rica. I listened to him a lot in my childhood and I keep doing it till this very day. One last sad thing to mention is why he left the band, and he did because he was diagnosed with throat cancer, such a horrible fate for a singer! But hey, thats not all for our hero, back in 2018 he was fully recovered and he still has plans for a comeback (and even perfomed last year plenty of his hits in the 'Auditorio Nacional del Museo de los Niños de Costa Rica').

Here have some official songs links to listen while reading:

Body:

As I previous said, he was a popular figure both nationally and locally, so lets say some cool facts about him.
He in his early ages tried to study careers like architecture, civil engineering and microbiology, all of them incompleted. Artistically, on the other hand, he was plenty succesful and was the favourite singer of the ex president Luis Alberto Monge Alvarez to the point he frequently visited the Presidential House to perform, ex president still says he is a 'magnificent singer'.
He is commonly seen at restaurants and food places in Escazu and he is well known by old people but young generations dont seem to know him at all, or basically they just dont really seem to care.

Conclusion:

So, I wrote this blog to honour him and his legacy, and of course, share it for those who dont know him (what a shame!). Kind of with a nostalgia feel in my heart, I say goodbye to him and a good listen to anyone who has interest in those good retro oldies. Bye! 👋
